About Maracana Stadium
Once held 199,854 for the 1950 World Cup final, the largest football crowd ever. Brazil lost to Uruguay in the Maracanazo, a national trauma. Renovated for the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympics. The stadium is named after journalist Mario Filho.
